Bunting!

We’ve got a party coming up this weekend and I’m making bunting to decorate the patio. My stepmom gave me a big bolt of fabric left over from a 20 year old decorating project, so I decided to use that for the bunting. Step one was to cut out lots and lots of triangles.

Step two is to sew the sides of each of the triangles together – that happens tomorrow!

Fairy House Underway

I’m making a fairy house for the garden as a surprise for the kids. Tonight I got the house framed and glued. Next I need to figure out how to side it and work on the roof. Once the house is done I’ll find a spot for it in the yard and do a little fairy landscaping.

I used some of the bamboo I thinned out earlier this year for the frame.

Working on Big Ideas

Today I spent quite a bit of time writing and thinking and writing some more. First on the idea for a project I’d like to work on, but that needs a sort of a roadmap to proceed; I’ve had the basic idea but am still working on the how-to and what meaning I’d like to express with it. Second I worked for a bit on a post for this site, but its not done and will have to go up in the next few days – I’ve got it outlined and some written but its not complete and I’d like to think about it a bit more.

It was a beautiful day today and I spent part of my writing time on a lounge chair in the yard, until the kiddos tried to spray me with the hose! Little naughties!

Here’s a glance at my sketching and writing for the aforementioned project:

I also updated posts from July 3rd and July 4th to add pictures.

This drawing is for my sister – ink on paper.

Happy Independence Day!

Oooh, I almost forgot to post tonight! My project today was food for our holiday celebration – olive tapanade, Mediterranean bean salad, steaks and grilled corn.

I got the recipe for the bean salad here – it’s Easy Mediterranean Bean Salad and it certainly was easy, but it tasted completely bland to me, so if I do attempt it again its going to get vamped up somehow.

Grilled corn is so so good – I wish I had some more right now!

We finished the night with a campfire and s’mores – I was restrained and didn’t eat nearly as many as I could have – s’mores might be my favorite dessert of all time, except that I forget that until summer rolls around again.

Clown Bean Bag Toss

We made a family project this morning at the suggestion of Vivi – a clown bean bag toss game. I took a large sheet of cardboard and drew a clown face on it, then cut big holes at the eyes and mouth. Viv colored the face in and we were good to go using beanbags we already had.

Needlepoint Gift

I was working tonight on a little gift for someone special in our lives:

Salmon Burgers and French Fries

Tonight I made a delicious dinner of salmon burgers with spinach and tomato slices, oven french fries and cucumber salad. However, if I didn’t photograph it did it really happen?

Coloring with the Kiddos

This morning the kids and I all sat down on the living room floor and had a major drawing/coloring session. Unfortunately for this post, it eventually segued into a wrestling/fighting session and my drawings were destroyed in the melee. It was nice while it lasted though!

Independence Day is Coming

Here’s a little 4th of July project – patriotic napkin rings (or napkin belts? I don’t know what they’re called if they’re not actually rings). They’re a work in progress so maybe I’ll put better photos up tomorrow or Sunday when they’re done.
