Beef Stew

Have I posted something about beef stew before? I can’t remember right now and I’m feeling altogether too lazy to check. Something about the day today just said ‘beef stew’ – maybe it was the pouring rain and 50 degree weather? (Hello Junuary).

There’s something so soothing to me about making stew – today I made a very basic version, with stewing beef, carrots, onions, and new potatoes. Here’s the pot just before adding the liquid (a combination of V-8 juice and beer):

Here’s a shot of the finished stew:

It was alright, but not the best ever. It had a few flaws – too many potatoes, not enough seasoning (salt – I left out much of the salt since the V-8 has so much sodium but it needed some), and I should have simmered it for some time with the lid off the pot so that it would evaporate and thicken up more. However, the kids ate it up so overall: A success.

Pixel Painting Take Two

Awhile back I saw a neat idea for pixel painting and tried it out. Here’s my latest attempt:

Here’s the image I used:

Our hotel had a terrible (read ‘non-existant’) internet connection so I couldn’t update each day – this photo is from 6/1/2012:

Glazing the Clay

We got to go back into the studio today to put an underglaze on our pieces. It was fun, except always a bit stressful when Dom’s on the loose too – but he and big sister had great fun glazing their pieces as well.

Here’s a few shots of what we were up to:

Fun With Clay

I forgot to take pictures this afternoon but we got to play in the studio for a few hours – so so fun! I made a little bowl, a teacup and a dish. Tomorrow we’ll glaze them which will be a blast as well. I’ll try to remember the camera!

Updated 5/29/12 to add photos of some unglazed clay pieces I took today.
